Pastor Derrick Everett Spencer Sr. is virtually a native to everywhere. He was born in Rapid City, South Dakota. Nevertheless, has lived in many different parts of the world. He is one of four siblings born to retired Captain Ronald R. Spencer Sr. and elementary educator Dianna L. Spencer Pope.
Pastor Spencer received his Diploma of Theology and Advanced Diploma in Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Spring of 2005. In December of 2008, Pastor Spencer obtained a Masters in Family and Marriage Counseling at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. In December 2009 he became certified in the state of Texas to teach grades ranging from early childhood to 4th grade. He is an ordained minister and has received licenses to preach from Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, The Church of the Living Water, and Legacy Fellowship.
Over the past twelve years Pastor Spencer has worked as an elementary school teacher, mentor, and assistant Pastor. In the fall of 2009 he began working for Fort Worth Independent School District at Edward J. Briscoe Elementary as an educator. While there he noticed a need for male mentors and began a boys mentor group, The Urban Life Boys Club. With the help of all the male teachers at E.J Briscoe he has helped improve the climate of the campus by giving experience and exposure to male students in the program. In 2012 the Urban Life Boys Club was mentioned in the Star-Telegram newspaper and an official state proclamation, as to one of reasons the campus is a Recognized institution and a nominated Blue Ribbon School. From 2003-2009 Pastor Spencer worked for a non-profit by the name of H.O.P.E Farm as a mentor. At H.O.P.E Farm he assisted at-risk youth academically, socially, and spiritually. As assistant Pastor and Co-Founder of Legacy Fellowship he has served in ministry in various capacities and has had a passion for teaching people how to apply the Word of God in their lives. Under the leadership of Dr. McGuire he has had many opportunities to learn the various facets of ministry. He received his call to the ministry in 2002 and accepted his call to the pastorate in 2011.
Pastor Spencer is happily married to his bride of five years; Janille Spencer and they are truly blessed to have one son, Derrick Everett Spencer Jr. His life quote is “Remember don’t impress but impact and improve.” Derrick has a ‘bold heart’ for God and is optimistic about his future serving God and being about his Father’s business.
